Galatians 3:26 - Colossians 4:18

Just Give me Jesus. We might say that was the central theme of Paul's life. While Paul gave a lot of practical guidance for living as a believer in Christ, it always goes back to the gospel - the good news of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. In today's readings, there are portraits of Jesus that unfold to share the gospel to the churches. We will take a look at each one of them.
Galatians-Faith and Freedom
"I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me"(2:20)
"Clearly no one is justified before God by the law because, 'The righteous will live by faith'." (3:11)
"But the scriptures declares that the whole world is a prisoner of sin, so that what was promised, being given through faith in Jesus Christ, might be given to those who believe. Before this faith came, we were held prisoners by the law, locked up until faith should be revealed, So the law was put in charge to lead us to Christ that we might be justified by faith. Now that faith has come, we are no longer under the supervision of the law" (3:22-25)
"It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of bondage." (5:1)
"Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires."(5:24)
Just Give me Jesus. The good news of God that I am free from the curse of the law because of the promise of God's grace through faith in Jesus Christ. The good news of God that it is no longer I who live, but Christ in me by the Holy Spirit.
Ephesians-Grace and Love
"But because of His great love for us, Go, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions - it is by grace you have been saved. And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with Him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages He might show the incomparable riches of His grace, expressed in His kindness to us in Christ Jesus. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God" (2:4-9)
" I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge–that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen. (3:16-21)
Just Give me Jesus. The good news about the incomparable grace and limitless love God has for me. The good news of God that I cannot imagine what great things He has in store for me.
Phillipians - Humility and Knowledge
"Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature* God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death–even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." (2:5-11)
"But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ–the righteousness that comes from God and is by faith. I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection from the dead." (3:7-11)
Just Give me Jesus. The good news of God about Jesus Christ who took on the form of man, was obedient to His Father, died on the cross, and will be exalted as Lord. The good news of God that I may know Christ and receive His righteousness through faith. The good news of God that I can gain Christ and be found in Him.
Colossians - The Supremacy of Christ
"He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross. And you, who once were alienated and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds, he has now reconciled in his body of flesh by his death, in order to present you holy and blameless and above reproach before him, if indeed you continue in the faith, stable and steadfast, not shifting from the hope of the gospel that you heard, which has been proclaimed in all creation under heaven, and of which I, Paul, became a minister. (Col 1:15-23)
Just Give Me Jesus, The gospel of God.
Oh, the height and depth of mercy!
Oh, the length and breadth of love!
Oh, the fullness of redemption!
Pledge of endless life above!
